The Super 8 system initially had a film printing plate inside the cartridge, which was not suitable for high-end cameras. Initially, Eastman Kodak did not guarantee a fast aperture, such as f/1.4. This model was developed to realize a high-end camera for the Super 8 system. Initially, the intention was to attach a 6x zoom lens to this model, but Canon overcame numerous technological obstacles to enable greater magnification with a high-quality, high-speed zoom lens. These obstacles included a film drive technology within the depth of field range of a fast f/1.4 lens, focusing and color reproduction for the Super 8 system, which used primarily tungsten films that always required CCA filters during daylight. Eventually, the Auto Zoom 814 Super 8 was introduced to the market, featuring the world's first 8x f/1.4 zoom lens.
